Extra Credit

This class was fun experiance, it was alot harder then expected though. As an actress I feel knowing more about this ascpect of film making will help me understand the process better.

What I've Learned

Being in Teledramatic Arts we learn a lot of things that we don’t specifically put into use that might just sit in the back of our minds. One thing I learned that I never had an opportunity to put into use do either to time or lack of equipment ability was lighting. We learned a great deal about lighting how to use it to our advantage what curtain lighting does to a scene it can make it happy or sad or scary or joyful depending on if it’s dark or light. Lighting has a huge effect on the video and how it will come across. That is what lighting has taught me when looking at a video.

Final Reflection- Blog

At the beginning of this year I first learned how to work Premiere Pro like over lay’s and inserts you can see this by viewing my blogs videos.  Dealing with the camera I think the most important lesson I learned was the O.T.S project. In this project I learned how to position the camera properly over the shoulder while obeying the Rule of thirds. This helped me when making other videos like the good values video. I really enjoyed learning about the green screen exercise this helped Ashley and I to do our Holiday video I think we did a good job cutting out the green part and using the skill we had learned in the exercise. Nearing the end of the year we stopped learning different techniques and started to use them. My blog reflects this by showing more videos with content and fewer restrictions then the ones earlier. You see in my Blog that the videos become more complicated. For example the good values project has many techniques that we learned incorporated into it. As well as our cyber bullying video, that showed what we learned with titles and editing. That video really showed my groups editing skills and title making ability that we learned through workshops. After doing the rule of thirds workshop I showed how I can apply this in all my future videos. Every time I and my group members started a filming session we made sure that we followed the rule of thirds. By following the rule of thirds our videos come out more balanced and better looking. Another skill that I continuously used in my videos is the angle workshop. After learning many different angles and shots that could be taken I had to adapt that to the videos I did after. In that workshop we learned that different shots made different moods come out and different shots were used for different parts of the video i.e. establishment shot.  Another key component I learned that I show on my blog is music and sounds. We learned that sounds are very important to the mood and dramatic/comedic aspect of a video. In my rough draft of Good Values there is no music except for the credits and the video wasn’t very effective towards the audience. When we added music the audience response was a lot better than the first time we showed the video.  Another prim example of sound effects being useful is in our final video “Code Red” you hear and the siren that indicates a code red and without this sound affect the video wouldn’t make much sense.  Looking back on this year’s blog I see that I’ve learned a lot regarding film making, editing, critiquing, and being in films. I’ve learned dos and don’ts of teledramatic arts.

Final Video

This is a parody of the code red drill. It's ment as a Informational Parody on what to do during a code red.

Water is Wide- Abstract Music Video

Reflection

In Ashley and I’s video we wanted to get across the idea of a child’s imagination. We started with the picture of the backyard to show where this is really happening then we showed the boy transform into the brave night. We also have some back story on the battle showing the “kingdom” before war and then what happened after. Then we meet the bad guy and you see the hero having to fight with the bad guy. Near the end of the fight you see the bad guy turn into a stuffed monkey. You see the kingdom morph back into to the backyard. The little boy’s imagination took him on a wild journey to save the kingdom from evil.
The sequence I’m most proud of is 2:59-3:14. In this sequence you see the battle field go back to the back yard and the night go back to the little boy. I think this really helped the story because the movement of the first image of the kingdom it’s moving across the screen and then the backyard continues to move in the same direction looking like you’re scanning across and you can see it go back to reality.
I would have to say about 50% of our film is abstract. The abstract pictures we used were pictures of trees or forest type landscapes and they did all go together to make the video come together in a common theme.
I learned it’s a lot harder to do an abstract video then a regular video. The reason why I think this is because with a regular video you can just show what you mean but with an abstract video you have to allude to it using abstract things and your meaning of the video can be lost to others there can be many different stories that other people see.
Music has a very large meaning and it’s interesting to see others interpret it because different people se different things and its fascinating to see the music come alive through the images that people choose to make a new story and plot.
My partner found all the images she worked incredibly hard looking through all the creative commons and finding pictures that would go with our idea and vision of what we wanted our video to look like. I think the most I contributed to the making of the video was the effects and edits that I made to sync the music up with our story line we were making.
